Women’s Work
2016—

Women’s Work is an ongoing series of scanned collages that use found archival imagery of women’s hands working. The project investigates issues of labour and the body’s complex relationship with apparatuses, tools, and mechanical interfaces.

Collaging is the physical act of cutting and pasting, while scanning ushers the work into a digitally flattened space that has an indexical relationship to photography and the machine. Henderson is interested in how the body is activated at this intersection of analog and digital– two seemingly disparate mediums that are inextricably bound through form and meaning.
