Switches reveals the simultaneously public and private domestic environments of a virtual community of YouTube users. Taken from the viewpoint of a candid video or cell phone camera lens, these appropriated videos show hands prodding and tweaking apparatuses. This multitude of screenshots from instructional videos reveals the frozen, haptic moment when the human hand touches and activates the machine—this inaudible ‘click’ is emblematic of fraught interactions between the body and the apparatus.
